Sandro and his Spurs left Victorless

San Antonio Spurs has always relied on big, fundamentally perfect player to carry through the tough battles of NBA.

First, it was David Robinson, who later was accompanied by Tim Duncan. Spurs won five championships and became the most prolific franchise for years to come. Sunk in mediocrity, Spurs got another jackpot two years ago: they selected no less than Victor Wembanyama, a generational superstar without limits.

And now, the future of Wemby and, thus, the future of Spurs is in danger: Victor will miss the remainder of this season because of deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.

San Antonio is a good, deep, young team filled with veteran leadership of the best floor general in the game, Chris Paul. The team even added another old body in the face of Harrison Barnes, a former Warrior with the championship ring. De’Aaron Fox was added as a missing piece in this crafty puzzle.

We supported Spurs not only because Georgian National team star Sandro Mamukelashvili represents them. No, we supported Spurs because of the past (Timmy, Manu, Tony, Kawhi). We supported Spurs because of the arguably best coach ever Gregg Popovich. We supported their future in Wemby.

It is tough more than anything for the rest of the team, knowing how much Victor means to the franchise. And more so knowing how much he means to the game and how much Wemby loves the game of basketball.

Victor, a first time All Star, was named the unanimous Rookie of the Year last season and almost became the Defensive Player of the Year. He was the favorite to become the best defensive player this season leading the league with 3.8 blocks per game.

Wemby rose to a global superstar status.

And now, the world of basketball is left speechless.

We have to wait. And, the Spurs will have to fight. For Wemby, for the love of basketball. For pride.
