Jorge Ribeiro (1949–2026): A Life Dedicated to Journalism and Integrity

Jorge Ribeiro, born in Porto, Portugal, in 1949, passed away at the age of 77. He served as treasurer for AIPS from 2005 to 2013, contributing to the organization’s growth and stability.

Jorge had a distinguished career in journalism. He began at Actualidades and Norte Desportivo, worked in radio with Emissores do Norte Reunidos, and served as a war correspondent in Mozambique. He later worked with O Primeiro de Janeiro, studied journalism in Paris and Prague, and interned with EFE in Madrid and Izvestia in Moscow. In 1978, he joined JN, where he became editor-in-chief. He also taught at the university, sharing his expertise with future generations of journalists.

Throughout his career, Jorge Ribeiro was known for his dedication, integrity, and commitment to freedom of the press. His contributions to journalism and to AIPS will be remembered and respected.
