The Georgian Women's Volleyball Team Joins European Silver League
The Georgian women's volleyball team has joined the European Silver League. Georgia played its opening match against Iceland in Kópavogur and narrowly lost in a hard-fought five-set battle: 25–19, 13–25, 23–25, 26–24, 14–16.
Notably, Georgia started strong in every set except the fifth, often leading in the early stages. However, Iceland managed to catch up and overtake in the middle of nearly every set. Despite the defeat, the match was very competitive, and Georgia had a real chance to win. Georgia defeated Iceland 3–1 in the same tournament last year.
Ana Kalandadze was Georgia's top scorer with 18 points. Lizi Lobzhanidze contributed 16 points, while Mariam Mushkudiani added 14. The match's top scorer was Iceland’s attacker, Sól Héba Stefánsdóttir, who recorded 28 points.
Georgia will play its next match against Austria on May 31, also in Iceland. Austria was relegated from the Golden League this year.
