Georgia goes to Eurobasket!
Georgia beat Denmark 62:60 and will play at Eurobasket for the sixth straight time. Hard fought game, which gave Georgia the decisive win and well deserved place among Europe’s elite.
This was not pretty at all. Tornike Shengelia scored a game-high 19 points, but made just 4 of 15 field goals. Georgia went ahead by good thanx toa strong second quarter (18:4), but Denmark crawled its way back and went ahead in the fourth quarter.
Georgia was solid on defense and limited Denmark’s two best best players Iffe Lundberg and Shavon Shields to 6/27 field goals. Georgia was forcing some costly turnovers and scored when it needed to.
Denmakr was fighting until the end, but missed a potential game winner in the last seconds. After starting G group with two defeats, Georgia regrouped and took home three straight games.
Our veteran Giorgi Shermadini had 9 rebounds and played some tough defense.
Duda Sanadze had a game of his life in the NT, while scoring at will (16 points).
The whole team gave it all and now the final round awaits, where Georgia will be powered by NBA representatives Goga Bitadze (Orlando) and Sandro Mamukelashvili (San Antonio) and will be tough to beat.
Eurobasket will be hosted by Cyprus, Poland, Finland and Latvia (August 27th - September 17th).
