Freestyle wrestler Nicat Hasanov, a member of Azerbaijan’s U-20 national team and the Azerbaijan Sports Journalists Association (AİJA), has won a bronze medal at the “Journeymen World Classic” international tournament held in New York City, USA.

According to AİJA, Hasanov, competing in the 63.5 kg weight category, defeated two American opponents before losing to a Canadian wrestler in the semifinals. He then continued his fight for third place and secured the bronze medal by defeating a representative from Georgia, earning a spot on the podium.

At the tournament, our team was represented by head coach Ramin Allahverdiyev, who is also the Vice President of AİJA and Chairman of its Wrestling Commission, as well as an Honored Coach. Rauf Rustamov, Director of the Tovuz Youth House and a member of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), also traveled to the United States as part of the delegation.

It should be noted that Frank Popolizio, the organizer of the tournament, was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation for his contribution to the development of wrestling relations between the United States and Azerbaijan. Marilena Popolizio, who was responsible for the organizational aspects of the tournament, was presented with gifts reflecting Azerbaijani culture and art.
