The AIPS Europe Executive Committee visited Kyiv, Ukraine, on March 17 for a program that combined official meetings, visits to key sports institutions, and discussions with local sports leaders. The visit highlighted AIPS Europe’s commitment to supporting journalism and fostering collaboration across Europe, particularly in countries facing challenging circumstances.

The day began with a visit to the Olympic Centre “Koncha Zaspa,” where the delegation was introduced to Ukraine’s training programs and facilities for elite athletes. Following the visit, the Executive Committee held a meeting at the Radisson Blu Hotel, with members participating both in person and online. The meeting carried historic significance, as it was the first time the Executive Committee of an international organization convened in wartime Kyiv. During the session, Executive Committee member Oleksandr Hlyvynskyi delivered a presentation on the current situation in Ukraine during the war and the challenges facing Ukrainian sports media.

Further discussions focused on the priorities and activities of AIPS Europe in the coming months, reinforcing the organization’s mission to support sports journalism across the continent.

Later in the afternoon, the delegation visited the Olympic House and met with National Olympic Committee President Vadym Gutzait. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the development of sport in Ukraine, challenges facing athletes, and the role of journalists in covering sports in difficult circumstances. The day concluded with a dinner, offering time for further dialogue and professional exchange among committee members and Ukrainian sports leaders.

The visit provided the AIPS Europe Executive Committee with first-hand insight into Ukraine’s sports landscape and highlighted the organization’s ongoing dedication to supporting journalists, promoting collaboration, and upholding the principles of integrity, freedom, and excellence in sports media.
