Bitadze, Claxton or Vucevic?

LA Lakers need someone to control the paint. Well, who does not? You can not find another Jokic, but you do not have to. When you have that old guy called Lebron and some other crafter called Luka, no Jokic is needed. All you need, is a tall body with a clear mission.

Enter three options. All of them can slide in the Lakers family and contribute. Well, with different wheapons.

Option N 1: Nicola Vucevic

Vucevic  is the oldest one here. He never really was a good defender, but average Vucevic on defense is still a huge upgrade for Lakers, considering how great offensive player Nikola can be. And, well, still is. Nicola was on the trading block last year and was heading to Warriors, but the deal did not happen. Vucevic can be othe way to Hall of Fame when he closes his chapter. Nicola can shoot from outside, can pass (3.5 dimes last year) and is still a double double machine (18.5 points, 10.1 boards l.s). Luka loves Nicola, Lebron respects him, but adding another star to the mix is always a risk. But, when you are Lakers, risk is a given…

Option N 2: Goga Bitadze

Goga is on the move. We have heard it multiple times during the last regular season, but Goga stayed with Orlando and now have to decide, what is better for him. His contract runs through 2026/2027, but Orlando is willing to trade him, if the compensation is good enough. Bitadze was superb during the regular season, when Orlando was lacking some much needed talent and his stats regressed with the whole team being back. Still, among these three options, Goga represents the best defensive one for Lakers. And, he can shoot the ball too. Bitadze is a monster on offensive class, when given a freedom to crush the boards as well. All in All, Goga fits well.

Option N 3: Nic Claxton

Nicolas is a solid defender with some nasty moves around the rim. He is not your classical rim protector, but Claxton can move outside the paint, set the heavy screens and can defend one on one. He is under contract for three more years (23 million annually), but given his steady production, he can become a steal for Lakers. Its is always tempting to play alongside Lebron and Luka and Nic does not need the ball in his hands all the time. He can pass occasionally as well. He was averaging 11.8 points and 9.9 rebounds two years ago. He regressed a bit, but still was solid on both ends of the floor (10.3 points, 7.4 boards, 1.4 blocks). Lakers can get a jackpot with Nicolas.
