Georgia will host the Trialeti Cup 2025, an international figure skating tournament within the International Skating Union (ISU)-initiated Challenger Series, for the first time.
Challenger Series tournaments, launched by the ISU, have been held in ten different countries since the 2014–2015 season. Their results are of significant importance for athletes competing in the senior category. These tournaments provide skaters with the opportunity to achieve the technical minimum scores required to qualify for the European and World Championships, as well as improve their positions in the world rankings. Additionally, the series allows athletes to debut new programs and gain valuable international experience.
From the submitted applications, the ISU selected the one initiated by Ms. Mariam Giorgobiani, President of the Georgian National Figure Skating Federation, to host a Challenger Series tournament in Tbilisi for the upcoming season. The Georgian federation’s application met all the mandatory international standards for hosting, both in terms of infrastructure and the recent successes of Georgian athletes on the international stage. As a result, among the ten countries considered, Georgia was one of four selected to host the tournament in all four categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, pairs, and ice dancing.
The Trialeti Cup 2025, scheduled for October 8–11 at the Tbilisi Ice Arena, will be a significant step in promoting figure skating in Georgia and in organizing events of this caliber.
At the beginning of the new season, Georgian fans will have the opportunity to watch top-ranked international athletes perform in Tbilisi, alongside members of the Georgian national team.
